Roberta’s Blog – January 16, 2007

Well, it’s been a wild ride! And tomorrow’s the day we’ve all been waiting for. The launch of Canada’s first internet television station.

untv.ca!

It’s hard to say how I feel about it. Mostly excited, I think. Proud. Scared. Hopeful. I know that untv.ca is all about being unafraid. But I have to admit .. I’m just a little afraid. Who wouldn’t be? Steve, Dawn and I own a television station! And not just a television station. A television network!

A year and a half ago, Dawn and I started Pink Dog Productions to create wonderful videos for wonderful not-for-profit charities and arts organizations. And we had lots of fun doing them and will still continue to do videos for people. No .. Pink Dog Productions isn’t disappearing … it just had a puppy called untv.ca. Strange name for a puppy, eh?!

Then, about 8 months ago a mutual friend (it’s all your fault, Keith Costello!) introduced us to a guy called Steve Morrison. An IT guy ..an internet guru type. Keith didn’t know exactly what either of us did ... but he just felt that we might be able to work together.

Boy were you right, Keith!

And the rest, they say … is history.

I feel like it’s the wild west .. anything could happen!

Tomorrow we go LIVE!!!

Hope I can sleep tonight.

Roberta

I heard about untv on CBC radio this afternoon and thought I'd have a look. While I'm not sure how a handful of online videos constitutes a "television network," I will check in from time to time and see how things are developing. I already want to see "what happens next?" at the Afterlife Bar & Grill.

Have you considered the value of uploading some material to YouTube in order to draw others to your site? Some of your rival "networks," (CBS and NBC for instance) have been doing this for a while now.

By the way, if you want a wider variety of responses and input here, for better or worse, I'd suggest allowing anonymous comments.

Wishing you all the very best from beautiful (really!) Oshawa Ontario,

Uncle Ian.

Been checking out the shows. It's nice to see the higher image quality and audio quality, that's for sure.

One thing I am wondering about: "As the Wheels Turn"... The logo on the spinning hub cap... the line "It's a really nice car" and the announcer saying "will we see the rest of the car?" I think we have an ad disguised as a soap opera spoof here. Now, I don't claim to speak for anyone else, but I would much rather just see an opening and/or closing stating "This episode brought to you by Brand X", or even just a flat out sponsor ad. Will each future episode reveal some new feature of the car? Or am I reading this all wrong?
